Kick The Latch

[read 5.14.25]
for 150 Club

really liked the style and substance of this one,
felt like hearing one of your older relatives tell stories about their life growing up and how wild and crazy stuff was

apart from that, read this novella on the tail end of a weekend sort of characterized by "men behaving badly" media??
- What Women Want
- Anchorman
then this

and obviously those movies are fictional and this more based in reality, but like, i think they all capture a time of women entering male-dominated areas and just how shitty men treat them and also how women are presented as "bad" because they're actually competent??
like just insane that these male-dominated areas lead to just work not getting done well or weird "boys club" energy (i.e. Mel Gibson not coming to work till 10pm; the anchorman staff having man-child energy; the jockeys putting shoe polish on a guy's balls when he broke the maiden; crazy shit you know?)

so anyway, that was just some of what was on my mind with this. thought about how those Athens story-tellers like Donald Davis and Bil Lepp have such fun stories, maybe it's not a coincidence that so many of them are guys???
good book though, kinda makes me want to read something structured like this but with a circus

★★★★

good style and substance

random What Women Want notes/hate:
- "one kiss doesn't make me a lesbian, does it?" lol, actually a weird amount of queer visibiity in this one?
- Literally evil shit for the therapist to tell him that if he is the one man who knows what women want, he  can rule
- 15 and 18 age-gap relationship??? Seems weirdlyyyy accepted as just "ooh i'm a protective dad, I don't ike that erg"
